When is Chinese New Year 2020

Many may wonder why Chinese New Year happens on a different day every single year. Why isn’t there a fixed date for CNY just like Christmas Day? Well, here’s why!

The Chinese do not use the same Gregorian calendar which is commonly used around the world, but they use the Traditional Chinese calendar from the olden days instead. A month in the Chinese Calendar would be 28 days long and a Year would consist of 353 to 355 days. Isn’t it fascinating? And surprisingly the Chinese Calendar also has a leap month which happens every 3 years!

So when exactly is Chinese New Year 2020? It actually falls on the 25th of January. You could count it in your head to know exactly what date CNY falls on but googling it seems perfect.

The Chinese also happen to follow a list of the 12 Zodiac animals for each year, and this year happens to be the Year of the Rat.
Years of the Rat are 1984, 1996, 2008 and not to forget, 2020.
